Yankees Stun the Indians With 5-2 Win in Game 5, Advance to ALCS (Giuseppe)

I don’t believe it. I just flat out don’t believe it. The seemingly unbeatable Indians went up on the seemingly hapless Yankees 2 games to 0, and the Bronx Bombers came back to win the ALDS for the first time since 2012. Going against everyone’s predictions, the Yankees upset the Indians with a 5-3 win to end a historic season from Cleveland and bring the “WINdians”  World Series Drought to 69 years.

The Indians had high expectations going into the series and did not disappoint in game 1. The Indians shut out the Yankees to win the game 4-0. All three RBI on Cleveland’s side came via a Jay Bruce 2-run Home Run, and a Jay Bruce sacrifice fly.

Game 2 went very differently. The Indians outlasted the Bombers in a slugfest in which the Indians scored 9 and the Yankees scored 8. It seemed as if the Yankees were going to win for certain after thay went up 5 runs of Cleveland, but the Indians bounced back with a Francisco Lindor grand slam in the 6th with 2 outs. Jay Bruce hit a solo shot in the eighth to tie it. Yan Gomes came up big with a double in the bottom of the 13th with a runner on second to end the game.

Game 3 didn’t go so well for the Tribe. Mashahiro Tanaka and Carlos Carrasco both partook in a pitchers duel in which Tanaka went 7 shutout innings and Corrasco went 5.2 shutout innings. Despite Corrasco’s efforts, the Indians gave way when Andrew Miller gave up a solo shot to Greg Bird. There would not be another run scored all game.

In game 4, Luis Severino faced off aginst Trevor Bauer, and Bauer got hammered giving up 4 runs and only recording 5 outs. Severino went 7 innings giving up 3 runs, and he would end up with the win as the Yankees would put up 3 more runs to win 7-3 and force a game 5.

In the last Division Series that you would expect to go 5 games, Corey Kluber faced off against C.C. Sabathia, and things got really ugly really fast for the Cleveland ace. Kluber gave up a solo shot to Sir Didi Gregorious in the top of the first and gave up a 2-run blast to Gregorious in the third. The Indians entered the top of the 9th losing by just 1, if they prevented any scoring than they got to the bottom of the ninth and try to tie it or even win in, right. Nope! Brett Gardner drove in 2 runs and basically cemented the Yankees place in the ALCS. Chapman came in and ended the Indian’s season with the save.

Who would have thought. The Yankees come back after being down 2-0 in the series all the while making Daryll and me look like idiots. Here is our Postseason Predictions standings now.

Giuseppe-2

Daryll-2

Whoever wins the Nationals vs Cubs game tonight will determine who takes a lead in the standings with me going for the Nats and Daryll going for the Cubbies.
