The Philadelphia Phillies claimed slugger Jose Bautista on revocable waivers on Monday from the New York Mets.
Bautista’s career was thought to be over when the New York Mets gave him a chance to wear a big league uniform for another season and while Bautista was surprisingly hot at the beginning of his Mets tenure, he has cooled down tremendously and is currently hitting a sub-par .199/.340/.368 with 11 home runs in 338 plate appearances this season, including the 12 games he played for the Atlanta Braves.
The Phillies are currently two games behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the Second Wild-Card spot in the National League and trail the Atlanta Braves by three games in the National League East Division. Bautista should not expect a starting job on the Phillies, but he will be a solid bench bat with a good deal of postseason experience behind his belt.
