Boston Red Sox Defeat New York Yankees, Advance to ALCS (Giuseppe)

During the 2018 American League Wild Card Game in Yankees Stadium, Yankees fans could be heard loudly chanting the words, “WE WANT BOSTON” during their eventual 7-2 victory over the Oakland A’s. Following the first division series matchup between the two rivals, it is hard to fathom that the Yankees could have wanted to face Boston after getting crushed in four games.

The Boston Red Sox took the first game of the best of three series by a score of 5-2 before the Yankees struck back in game two with a 6-2 win over Boston. After the series was tied up 1-1, the Red Sox made some noise with a 16-1 massacre of the Yankees backed by a Brock Holt cycle (the first in Postseason history). After getting embarrassed in their home stadium, New York was once again shown up by Boston in New York after the Red Sox took Game 4 by a score of 4-3. The New York Yankees’ incredible season was now over.

The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox both won 100 games in 2018 after they each acquired prominent sluggers in the offseason (Giancarlo Stanton and J.D. Martinez). The Yankees were even able to break the all-time single season home run record for a team and had 20 or more home runs hit in each spot in their lineup. Unfortunately for the Bronx Bombers, it wasn’t enough to defeat their perpetual foes.

The Yankees will now be sent back to New York and World Series win No. 28 will have to wait. The Red Sox will face the Houston Astros in the ALCS for a chance to play in the World Series.

With this win for the Red Sox, I am now out of the Playoff predictions race with both of my World Series teams getting eliminated. If the Astros go on to the World Series, Daryll will win and if not, we will end in a tie.

Giuseppe – 4

Daryll – 4
