The Minnesota Twins claimed 1B/DH C.J. Cron off waivers on Monday from the Tampa Bay Rays after the Rays controversially designated the slugger for assignment.
Cron had a breakout year in 2018, hitting 30 homers with a .253/.323/.493 batting line over 140 games in 2018. Cron made just $2.3 million in 2018 and with two years of team control remaining, will get a raise from Minnesota.
I guess that $2.3 Million a year for a solid bat and 30-home runs a year is too much to stomach for the penny-pinching Rays. The Rays continue to establish themselves as the biggest cheapskates in baseball and their loss will be the struggling Minnesota Twins’ gain.
