The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim traded cash considerations and a player to be named later for utility infielder Tommy La Stella. The former Chicago Cub is entering the second of three years of arbitration eligibility and will be receiving a small raise from his 2018 salary of $950,000.
La Stella hit a subpar .266/.340/.331 over 192 plate appearances across 123 games for the Chicago Cubs in 2018. La Stella spent the majority of his time playing third and second base.
After the Chicago Cubs acquired utility infielder Ronald Torreyes, La Stella became expendable, leaving room for the Angels (who are in need of a second baseman and a third baseman while Zack Cozart is out) to pick him up for cheap and add infield depth.
